The machine is attached to a handheld device that is placed against the patient’s skin. It delivers ultrasound waves, which bounce off internal structures, such as organs, and return to a sensor inside the machine. The machine then uses these “echoes” to generate images that our veterinarians can view on a screen.

We also use this equipment to diagnose and determine the severity of certain forms of cancer and to monitor pregnancy and assess fetal health. Because images are generated in real-time, this incredible technology can even be used to assess the heart as it beats.
